Capricia Grante, Avatar of the Black Goat

Description

:iconcommentplz: Or vice-versa.

Another GRIM character, and for good reasons quite the recluse - Capricia Grante.

While some few dream-gods gain interaction with Midrealm via connections with Envoys, more of them generally connect by making a part of themselves a piece of Midrealm - an Avatar, so to speak. This human "incarnation", so to speak, is the gateway for a dream-god to interact with Midrealm. Which brings us to the current Avatar of a dream-god born from sapient-kind's carnal instinct - Menidub...

Capricia started as a normal girl, living a peaceful life in Southwold, Suffolk. She and her boyfriend Aren were quite close. One night, when the two of them were 17, their affection for each other peaked. And at an unfortunate time, too - Capricia's latent power as an Avatar had matured and awakened, triggering her first Transference (that is, a transformation that channels the dream-god's power to the Avatar form). She unknowingly morphed into a large frightening goat-like beast unlike anything of this world...during a kiss...resulting in a heightened endorphin overload into poor Aren! This came close to killing him...but Capricia soon realized that she had changed and let go of him, just BARELY sparing his life.

Her mother had come in the room to investigate the odd noise, and came face-to-face with the transformed Capricia, looming over the comatose young man. Unable to recognize this quadruped monster as her daughter, the mother screamed in horror and lashed out, forcing Capricia to flee. Flee FAR from Southwold. Eventually finding her way to the Dunwich Forest, where she would hide out.

After some time, she soon came across a group of children that looked like they had escaped...a hospital, maybe? At first, they were frightened by Capricia's presence as Menidub. But then, armed soldiers of unknown affiliation arrived to capture the children - Capricia instinctively jumped in to the kids' defense, taking down all but one soldier (who escaped, ridden with fear). As she decided to defend these kids from this unknown group, Capricia's Transference evened out her dream-god form with her original human body, resulting in the base form seen above.

Capricia could not return to Southwold. While she does care for the rescued children, she tried to detach her love for her family and Aren, in the hopes that she wouldn't become a threat to them anymore.

Again, as an Avatar, Capricia is Menidub but at the same time isn't. While her true Menidub body slumbers in a half-sleep in Somin, Capricia is her true interaction with Midrealm. Through Transference, she can morph her human body to her Menidub form and back, usually transforming just parts, like claws. Parts of her can even take on forms unimaginable - for instance, her hands can turn into gaping fanged mouths, or she can sprout tentacle "wings" covered with extra eyes. Menidub does have a mouth on her face, but it usually doesn't form unless she plans to use it. Her speech is mostly telepathic reverberation.

Moreover, Menidub was born of carnality - the unexplainable sensual desires hardwired into the minds of Midrealm life. From simple friendly interactions to full-on...you know. Menidub's powers - and to that extent, her Avatar's powers - draw from that beastly instinct. Her rage fuels her strength even further, her senses increase in potency, her wild spirit even manifests as ki, which can form blasts of varying levels and shapes. This ki is mostly fired from hand-mouths or wing-eyes.

A form her ki can take is a creature of her fledgling emotion - Dorchoga (Dark Young). They mostly look almost like scurrying black trees riddled with golden eyes. The Dorchoga lack Capricia/Menidub's intellect (and strength), so they're mostly used to overwhelm enemies in numbers, or to scout things out for her. Her ki can also fuel her endorphins, which she can inject into others via saliva, fangs, or talons. As proven with Aren's case, these endorphins can overload the victim's body through their stamina, senses, or thoughts, acting as a dangerous poison.

Incidentally, these endorphins are also involved in a ritual that Menidub could invoke with a Midrealm being. By devouring the chosen whole, she saturates them in a crucible-like stomach full of endorphins. Should the chosen prove capable of surviving it, they will emerge (from Menidub's chest-mouth) as an evolved being. Of course, even the staunchest of dreamtime scholars laugh off the thought of surviving the ordeal as impossible...

It's Menidub's emotional flow that makes her so dangerous among dream-gods. And yet, dreamtime scholars mostly agree that this is why she's one of the closer dream-gods to Midrealm (which there aren't many of). Forming an alliance with her is no easy task, but it would no doubt be greatly rewarding. That said, since Sable and Rev's investigation of this power-granting industry will cross paths with Capricia's, they'll really have to try to earn her favor. Even if it takes quite a while...

Still, Capricia believes she'll grow stronger as an Avatar through hardship. She wishes that she can get a hang of her abilities so she won't hurt anyone close. Until then, she prefers to keep distant from would-be friends. Even then, the maternal instinct within her drives her to defend any child in need. When estrus peaks, she'll try to get as far away from everyone as possible and take it out on some lifeless "punching bag". Gods know what would happen if she ended up having to dole her carnal rage out on another lifeform...

You use such a simple style, almsot amateurish, yet you add so much different and great colour mixes as well as polish that it feels so unique. Every design feels distinct, yet colorful.

I'm amazed everytime.
